MILESDOVES: The Successor to the FEATHER CX+

The FUJI MILESDOVES is the successor to the FEATHER CX+, the chromoly bike that supported FUJI’s lineup for many years.
The FEATHER CX+ first appeared well before gravel bikes became the established category they are today. Based on FUJI’s iconic FEATHER single-speed bike, it was originally introduced as an urban cyclocross model with multiple gears and wider tires.

Its slim chromoly frame, level-top-tube-inspired silhouette, and sporty on-road performance remain distinctive qualities of the FEATHER CX+ that still feel appealing today.
However, when viewed against the standards of modern gravel bikes, certain aspects of its design—including tire clearance, gearing, and geometry—had begun to show their age.
Modernized While Preserving the Best of the FEATHER CX+

The MILESDOVES retains the distinctive character of the FEATHER CX+ chromoly frame and its lively, road-bike-like ride, while updating the tire clearance and overall design to suit modern gravel riding.
It is not simply a bike that can accommodate wider tires. Its real strength lies in the balance between easy handling around town and the capability needed to venture onto unpaved roads.

【2026 Model】Chromoly Meets Gravel: Why the FUJI FEATHER CX+ Is Such a Versatile Bike
What Has Changed from the FEATHER CX+?
While inheriting the basic concept of the FEATHER CX+, the MILESDOVES incorporates the performance and versatility expected from a modern gravel bike.
The most significant changes are its tire clearance and geometry.
Expanded Tire Clearance up to 700×45C

![]() |
The FEATHER CX+ came equipped with 700×35C tires, and a width of around 35C was generally considered the practical limit.

By comparison, the MILESDOVES officially supports tires up to 700×45C. It also comes standard with 700×38C semi-slick tires, offering considerably more tire volume than the FEATHER CX+.
The wider tires provide greater confidence over bumps and rough pavement, while also making it easier to maintain grip and cushioning on gravel roads and forest tracks.
Riders who prioritize speed and agility on pavement can continue using the standard 38C tires, while those seeking greater stability and comfort off-road can customize the bike with wider tires.
A Lower Center of Gravity without Losing Its Lively Ride

One of the changes from the FEATHER CX+ that has a major effect on ride quality is the BB drop.
The FEATHER CX+ had a BB drop of 58mm, while the MILESDOVES increases this to 65mm. This lowers the center of gravity to complement the larger tires and improve stability on unpaved surfaces.
However, it is not an extremely low design compared with gravel bikes that place a stronger emphasis on stability. The geometry still preserves the responsive handling and lively, road-bike-like ride of the FEATHER CX+.
The chainstay length has also been extended slightly from 430mm to 435mm. The head tube is a little longer as well, making it easier to create either an aggressive riding position or a relatively relaxed one through the use of spacers and different stem setups.
More Weight, but Greater Capability and Versatility

In terms of weight, the FEATHER CX+ has a manufacturer-claimed weight of approximately 11.4kg, while the MILESDOVES weighed 13.04kg in our shop measurement for a 525mm size without pedals.
The MILESDOVES is heavier on paper, but the FEATHER CX+ figure is a manufacturer-claimed value, whereas the MILESDOVES was measured in our shop. Because the measurement conditions are not identical, these figures should be treated as a general reference only.
The MILESDOVES features wider 700×38C tires as standard, clearance for tires up to 700×45C, and additional mounting points for carrying gear. Rather than prioritizing low weight, its design emphasizes confidence on unpaved roads, carrying capacity, and practical versatility across a wider range of riding styles.
While the FEATHER CX+ excelled as a lively city bike, the MILESDOVES adds greater stability and durability, allowing riders to travel farther and explore a broader variety of surfaces.
Updated Mounting Points for Greater Carrying Flexibility

The mounting points used for attaching bags, bottle cages, and other accessories have also been updated from those found on the FEATHER CX+.
The FEATHER CX+ had two mounting points on the upper side of the down tube, while the MILESDOVES increases this to three. Additional mounts have also been added underneath the down tube, providing more freedom when choosing where to carry gear and accessories.
Frame bags, bottles, tool cases, and other equipment can be arranged to suit each rider’s needs. This gives the MILESDOVES greater carrying capacity than the FEATHER CX+, not only for everyday riding but also for long-distance touring and bikepacking.
The Center-Stand Mount Carried Over from the FEATHER CX+

The MILESDOVES retains the center-stand mounting plate previously featured on the FEATHER CX+.
Many sport bikes do not offer a suitable way to install a stand. A dedicated mounting plate allows a stand to be fitted neatly while reducing the risk of placing unnecessary stress on the frame.
This is a practical feature for riders who frequently park their bike while commuting, shopping, or running daily errands. It is another detail that makes the MILESDOVES easy to use around town as well as on gravel rides.
A Chromoly Frame with a Classic Level-Top-Tube Design

One of the most appealing aspects of the MILESDOVES is its chromoly frame and level-top-tube-inspired design, both of which have become relatively uncommon among modern gravel bikes.
The frame is made from Fuji Elios 2 CrMo. Its slim tubes create a classic silhouette, while the durable construction makes it suitable for regular, worry-free use.
Sizes 525mm and above feature a level top tube. Despite being a modern gravel bike with wide tires and disc brakes, it has an elegant appearance reminiscent of traditional touring bikes and classic chromoly road bikes.
A Unicrown Fork with Clearance for Wide Tires

The front end uses a straight-blade unicrown fork, continuing a design element found on the FEATHER CX+.
The fork has been widened to accommodate the increased tire clearance. Paired with the slim chromoly frame, it gives the front of the bike a stronger and more stable appearance.

The fork includes mounting points for racks, fenders, and side-mounted bottle cages. This makes it suitable not only for everyday use, but also for loaded touring and bikepacking.
A Practical Gravel Bike That Is Not Focused on Speed Alone
The MILESDOVES is not a gravel bike designed solely to pursue racing speed or minimum weight.
It can be used for commuting and daily city riding, then taken farther afield on the weekend or onto an interesting unpaved road along the way. Within this realistic style of riding, it combines the lively feel of a road bike with the freedom and versatility of a gravel bike.
Rather than being built only to go fast, it is a frame designed to expand the places you can reach and the ways you can enjoy cycling. That, in our view, is the true purpose of the MILESDOVES.
Components for Everything from City Riding to Gravel

The MILESDOVES uses a 2×8-speed drivetrain built primarily around SHIMANO CLARIS components.
Its 46-30T front chainrings and 11-34T rear cassette provide lower gearing than the FEATHER CX+, making it easier to handle city stop-and-go riding, hills, and loaded touring.
46-30T Front Gearing for Easier Climbing

The FEATHER CX+ used 48-36T front chainrings with an 11-32T rear cassette. The MILESDOVES changes this to 46-30T at the front and 11-34T at the rear.
In particular, the combination of the 30T inner chainring and 34T rear sprocket makes it easier to select a low gear on steep climbs, unpaved roads, or when carrying luggage.
It is a gravel-oriented gear range designed not only for city riding, but also for countryside cycling, mountain passes, and camping tours.
Easy-to-Maintain Mechanical Disc Brakes

Braking is handled by Tektro Mira mechanical disc brakes with 160mm rotors.
They provide dependable braking performance in wet conditions and on unpaved roads. Compared with hydraulic systems, their simpler construction and ease of maintenance are also advantages for everyday riding and long-distance touring.
Versatile 700×38C Tires as Standard

The MILESDOVES comes standard with 700×38C Chaoyang Gravel GP tires.
These semi-slick tires feature a center section designed to roll smoothly on pavement, while their larger volume provides stability over rougher surfaces. They are well suited to commuting and city riding, as well as occasional rides along riverbanks and unpaved roads.
The bike also features an aluminum drop handlebar with 6° of flare. This allows the rider’s arms to open naturally when using the drops, helping provide greater control over rough terrain.

The FUJI MILESDOVES is the successor to the FEATHER CX+, retaining its slim chromoly frame and lively character on pavement while adding clearance for tires up to 700×45C, a wider gear range, and a generous selection of mounting points.
Personally, however, we do not see it as a straightforward modern gravel replacement for the FEATHER CX+. Instead, it feels like a bike that has evolved in a slightly different direction.

Before gravel bikes became an established category, the FEATHER CX+ was already combining the quick acceleration of a cyclocross bike with the ability to handle rough roads. It earned the support of riders who wanted a bike capable of everything from city riding to small adventures.

The MILESDOVES, by contrast, has a character that brings to mind a classic randonneur or light touring bike. It can carry luggage efficiently on paved roads and continue directly onto unpaved routes. This gives it a slightly different position from gravel bikes that place speed and aggressive off-road riding at the forefront.
Because gravel bikes can continue traveling across both paved and unpaved roads, they are increasingly chosen as modern touring bikes, much like traditional randonneurs. Among them, the MILESDOVES is a gravel bike that feels more closely aligned with touring and bikepacking than with racing or aggressive riding.

If the FEATHER CX+ was a lively bike made for setting out from the city in search of adventure, the MILESDOVES is built to carry luggage and continue traveling farther. From everyday commuting and city riding to weekend touring and unpaved roads, it is a bike that can be developed and customized around the way you ride.
It is well worth considering not only for riders who loved the style of the FEATHER CX+, but also for anyone looking for the classic appearance of a chromoly bike, modern gravel capability, and the versatility needed for touring and travel.
