Is the FEATHER CX+ a gravel bike? (From its inception to the present)
The FUJI FEATHER CX+ was released more than a decade ago, before the gravel bike category was established.

It has a history of being released as a geared version of FUJI's standard steel single-speed bike, the "FEATHER."
Since it was a multi-speed version of a single-speed bike, its frame geometry was similar to "cyclocross (CX)," so at the time, it was marketed as an urban cyclocross category.
For this reason, it seems there are people who question "FEATHER CX+ = Gravel."
So, what's the difference between a gravel bike and a cyclocross bike? The conclusion is that there's no clear distinction.
Simply put, cyclocross bikes are designed for racing, and everything else is a gravel bike. "Cyclocross bikes are designed for easy pedaling on dirt courses" vs. "Gravel bikes are often designed for cruising stability."
However, I personally wonder if it's even necessary to differentiate them...

The reason is that cyclocross racing is also known as "dirt criterium."

In the road bike category, "criterium race road bikes" and "endurance road bikes" are all simply road bikes, so why should gravel bikes and cyclocross bikes be so clearly defined?...
Due to this change in how "gravel bike" is interpreted with the times, it feels like the FEATHER CX+ has also come to be considered a gravel bike.
FEATHER CX+ frame performance (Chromoly frame perfect for urban gravel)

As mentioned above, the FEATHER CX+ is a chromoly bike with a frame design similar to cyclocross.

While the wheelbase is long, the center of gravity is designed to be higher compared to a gravel bike. This means it is designed for smoother starts when pedaling.

Additionally, the head tube length is kept short despite the long head tube, allowing for a more aggressive, sporty riding position.

Popular gravel bikes are designed with "a lower center of gravity for improved running stability" + "an upright position for long-distance riding."
Conversely, the FEATHER CX+ is more compatible with stop-and-go city riding, and it shouldn't be an issue unless you're planning extremely long rides with a lot of luggage.

The stock tires are 700x35c, which is a bit narrower for a gravel bike. The tire clearance feels just right.
Previously, there was an official manufacturer article that tested fitting 38c tires on the FEATHER CX+, which stated that 38c tires could technically be fitted, but they were not compliant with JIS standards. Therefore, 35c can be considered the practical limit.
That said, it's perfectly fine if you primarily ride on paved roads and occasionally go off-road. It can smoothly navigate city bumps and drains, so for those who prefer narrower tires, this might not be a disadvantage.

One point where the FEATHER CX+ doesn't feel like a cyclocross bike is the numerous bolt mounts for attaching racks, carriers, mudguards, and fenders.

In addition, the center stand mounting bracket has been updated for several years now.
Few cyclocross models have these specifications, and I feel like it's becoming more aligned with gravel bikes.
These specifications are a welcome feature for everyday users.

The FEATHER CX+ uses quick-release axles for wheel attachment. However, the front dropout is designed to face forward.
This design is adopted to accommodate disc brakes, which generate high loads. This helps to prevent wheel displacement during braking.
It's a thoughtful detail, even for an urban gravel bike, showing consideration for the user!

The main component group is SHIMANO CLARIS (2x8 speed).

The reason why the FEATHER CX+ is gaining renewed attention as a gravel bike is its excellent cost performance.
The adoption of the CLARIS grade, which is perfect for sports bike beginners while keeping the budget down, is a welcome point◎

For gear ratios, a front 48/36T and rear 11-32T are adopted. This gear ratio is perfectly sufficient for daily use. The fact that it covers a range that allows for challenging hill climbs and passes is a welcome point◎
Above all, the choice of SUGINO for the crank is a typical FUJI choice. It pairs well with the slender appearance of the chromoly frame◎

Mechanical disc brakes are employed for the braking system. This specification balances braking power with ease of maintenance.
Since it's chainstay mounted, the worry of wheel displacement is reduced, and it's a smart design that also avoids interference with the rear caliper◎
