Road bikes have a long history, and recently, a kind of "golden ratio" has emerged... No matter which manufacturer you choose, they generally run fast.
However, within the gravel road category, each model has significantly different characteristics, and the recommended choice varies depending on how you plan to ride and play.
Because of this, it can be confusing for first-time buyers to know which model to choose.
For those people, we recommend the "FUJI JARI 1.7"!

The 2024 JARI 1.7 boasts not only an excellent design but also a slightly more affordable price than its predecessor, making it a highly rated model for entry-level aluminum gravel bikes!
About the JARI 1.7 Frame Performance

The JARI 1.7 frame is made from FUJI's original "A6-SL" aluminum (titanium-infused aluminum).
In addition, the front triangle uses lightweight 6061 aluminum, which excels in vibration absorption.

The rear triangle features a compact design with dropped seatstays, a common feature on road bikes, and uses 6066 aluminum for the material.
This allows for efficient power transfer from pedaling into propulsion.
It's quite rare for models in the same price range to use different materials for the front and rear of the frame!

The geometry features a slightly lower center of gravity and a slightly longer wheelbase. As a gravel road bike, the geometry is easy to handle, leaning more towards a road bike◎
In addition, thanks to the compact rear triangle and the use of different materials, as mentioned earlier, its performance on paved roads should not be underestimated!

The front fork is made of chromoly, offering impressive toughness for carrying heavy loads.
It's compatible with tapered steerer tubes, making carbon fork upgrades smooth.

Although the wheels are basically quick-release, the rear end can be converted to a thru-axle with a separate bracket.

As a gravel road bike, it has plenty of eyelets.

A welcome feature for those who want to try bikepacking◎

In addition to carrier and fender mounts, it offers various loading options such as top tube, downtube underside, and fork blade mounts.

Also, the JARI series' classic top tube cushion pad is present and accounted for.
During gravel rides, there are surprisingly many situations where you have to carry your bike because you can't ride it, and that's when this comes in handy◎
It's respectable that this is such a realistic specification because it's been repeatedly tested in the field and feedback has been thoroughly incorporated!
If I had to point out a downside, it would be the quick-release wheel attachment.
While it's good that it can be custom-fitted with thru-axles, converting both front and rear to thru-axles would require replacing the "rear end bracket," "front fork," and "both front and rear wheels"...
If you want to "keep initial costs down" or "don't plan on doing very hard gravel rides," then it's not a disadvantage, but for those who buy with a certain level of expectation, it might be a drawback.
On the positive side, for people who get into cycling, often the only original part left in the end is the frame. If you consider customizing everything, the JARI 1.7, with its highly regarded aluminum frame, is an excellent "custom base bike" that makes it easy to create an optimal parts configuration for yourself!
About the JARI 1.7 Parts Configuration

The basic specifications include Shimano SORA (2x9 speed).

The crankset is made by FSA. It's a 46-30t setup, designed for climbing on gravel.

The brakes are TEKTRO mechanical disc brakes, which are popular in this price range.
Recently, mechanical disc brakes like EQUAL, which are comparable to hydraulic disc brakes, have come out, so customization is easy!

The tires are Panaracer Commet Hard Pack (700×38c) with a balanced on/off-road tread pattern.

The rims are WTB's "SX19". Please note that they are not tubeless compatible!
If you want to upgrade, please customize the wheels along with converting to thru-axles!
Summary of the 2024.FUJI JARI 1.7
- Improved rigidity and vibration absorption by using lightweight, titanium-infused aluminum and redesigning the rear bag to be more compact.
- The rear end can be converted to a thru-axle by replacing it with separately sold parts, offering high customization flexibility.
- Equipped with 5 bottle cage mounts + top tube mount, front and rear carrier mounts, etc., suitable for long touring.
- In addition to the top tube pad, the redesigned top end of the seat tube makes it easier to carry.
- A value model featuring SHIMANO SORA 2x9 speed + mechanical disc brakes.

As mentioned above, I did say something like, "It's a shame it doesn't have thru-axles from the start..." but when I think about it, FUJI products are all models with "customization potential"!
This comes from the manufacturer's desire for riders to "complete their bikes," encouraging riders to think carefully and customize them. It's a rare brand that promotes customization even though it's a complete bike brand.
So, the JARI 1.7 is not sold in its final form.
Indeed, they even provide end fittings for easy customization, and despite having a chromoly fork, it has a tapered steerer tube... and yet the frame itself is exceptionally solid...
Please challenge yourself to create your own personalized gravel road bike!
