Frame bags often bring to mind concerns about "knee rub" and "sleek aesthetics." The "blanket" frame bag from Hiroshima-based handmade bag brand tade qui brilliantly solves both of these issues.
Inspired by horse blankets, its unique design allows it to be fitted over the top tube, minimizing the bag's width while achieving a beautiful, unobtrusive silhouette that doesn't spoil the bike's lines.
This time, we'll introduce the structure, usability, and compatibility with chromoly bikes of the tade qui blanket.
[Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price] From 15,400 yen (tax included) *Price varies depending on the fabric used. [Compatible Size] Top tube length approx. 50-56cm (目安: S-L size)
*Recommended for chromoly frames *Cannot be mounted on frames with cables on the top of the top tube *Cable guides, etc. may interfere with the mounting position *May not be mountable on carbon frames with thick top tubes, as the zipper position will be too high
The Brand: tade qui
tade qui is a handmade bag brand from Hiroshima. It's known for its highly refined bags, where the aesthetic of brand owner Mr. Hosokawa is evident in every detail.
A distinctive feature is that the bags are designed not only for usability but also for the beauty of their appearance when attached to a bicycle. This dedication extends to fabric selection and component choices, with no compromises made on buckles, straps, or other fine details.
Going beyond the realm of mere bike bags, it's a brand that garners strong support from riders who "want to use slightly better tools" and appreciate quality craftsmanship.
The most distinctive feature of this blanket is its unique structure. As the name suggests, its design is inspired by horse blankets.
While typical frame bags are designed as box-shaped or pouch-like bags suspended inside the frame's triangle, the blanket is designed to be draped over the top tube.
It's designed to unfold left and right, like a filleted fish, using the top tube as its "spine" with the bag body spreading out on either side.
This unique concept was born from a collaboration with Mr. Ikeda, a staff member at Hiroshima's renowned shop, grumpy. After over six months of prototyping and real-world testing, it has been perfected into a highly refined bag.
A major concern for many riders with frame bags is the issue of knee rub while riding.
Because the blanket is designed to be mounted along the top tube, the width of the bag is almost equivalent to the diameter of the top tube, resulting in a very slim profile.
This minimizes lateral protrusion, significantly reducing the stress of knees touching the bag during pedaling.
It also has a very smart appearance, maintaining a beautiful and clean look that doesn't disrupt the chromoly frame's silhouette.
Furthermore, it features independent left and right compartments, allowing for use cases such as clamping long items like tent poles between them.
Installation is very simple. Just drape the bag over the top tube and apply tension with the two straps at the front and back.
Since it uses hook-type straps instead of Velcro, there's less damage from rubbing against clothing, and attachment/detachment is very smooth.
These hooks use parts manufactured by WOOJIN PLASTIC Co. of Korea, also used by brands like GREGORY and OSPREY.
Because tension can be applied securely, the bag is less prone to sagging or wrinkling, always maintaining a clean and neat appearance.
The zipper features a large pull-tab for easy operation even with gloves on. While the gusset design is minimal, the actual storage capacity feels surprisingly ample.
And a characteristic point of tade qui is its rich fabric and color lineup.
Mr. Hosokawa, known as a fabric enthusiast, selects a wide variety of unique materials. Beyond functionality, the ability to coordinate with your bicycle is also a major appeal.
