Carabiner Loop for Easier Drying

  • HIKER TRASH socks feature a loop at the cuff for attaching a carabiner. The idea was inspired by long-distance hikers who cut holes in wet socks with a knife so they could hang them from a tent or backpack to dry. Bringing the comfort and reassurance of dry socks to every journey.
*Carabiner is not included. The loop has been updated to a cord design, as shown in the product photo.

Comfortable, Machine-Washable Merino Wool

  • Made with washable merino wool. Its excellent warmth and moisture management help reduce perspiration-related chills while protecting the feet from changing outdoor temperatures. Natural antibacterial properties also help suppress the growth of odor-causing bacteria, maintaining comfort during extended wear.

Durability Built for Long-Distance Hiking

Long-distance hiking demands exceptional durability from a pair of socks. By knitting nylon and polyester into a merino wool base, this model offers significantly improved resistance to abrasion.

In wear testing, it recorded approximately 3,300 abrasion cycles at the toe and heel and approximately 2,800 cycles at the sole. These results compare favorably with typical benchmarks of around 500-1,000 cycles for casual socks and 2,500-3,000 cycles for sports socks. The thickness of the pile-knit fabric and its flexible stretch provide dependable comfort and reassurance during long hours on foot.

Real Toughness Proven Over 5,000km of Trail

  • In 2017, a prototype pair of HIKER TRASH socks was field-tested by long-distance hiker SKETCH, also known as Ryosuke Kawato, while completing the approximately 5,000km Continental Divide Trail, considered the most demanding of America’s three major long trails.

Any damage that occurred along the way was immediately reported to the development team in Japan, who made improvements and sent new samples back to the United States. The current HIKER TRASH series was shaped through this repeated cycle of demanding field testing and direct feedback. It is serious equipment backed by genuine experience.

HIKER TRASH (About the Brand)

  • Ryosuke Kawato, known on the trail as “SKETCH,” works as an illustrator and writer while also pursuing long-distance hiking. After completing America’s three major long trails, he earned the Triple Crown of Hiking.
HIKER TRASH is a serious sock collection created for hikers by combining his extensive trail experience with the technical expertise of ROTOTO.
