"It was precisely because it was a condition that made it less likely to be chosen as a complete bike that it became 'the most interesting bike'."
The FUJI STAUT (eirin original custom) introduced here is a bike assembled with the concept of completely overwriting practicality, aesthetic appeal, and playfulness, based on an outlet model with a 2025 model, a larger size, and some scratches.
It maximizes the inherent appeal of the STAUT – small wheels, fat tires, and carrying capacity – transforming "concerning conditions" from weaknesses into unique characteristics that are only possible with this specific setup.
From city riding to detours, and even touring with luggage, this custom bike is finished with a "just-right level of perfection" that allows you to enjoy it right from the start.
Why this specific setup? What kind of use cases does it suit? In this article, eirin will explain, step by step, how this STAUT was crafted.

What is FUJI STAUT?
The FUJI STAUT is a miniature adventure bike that condenses the world of gravel bikes and ATBs into a small wheel package.

With chunky, plump fat tires, a chromoly frame, and numerous braze-ons, it boasts an ultra-cute appearance yet is a serious performer underneath.
"Small but capable of big things" – this contrast is the bike's greatest charm.
Conceptually, it embodies the "adventure × small wheel" philosophy found in the VELO ORANGE NEUTRINO.
Furthermore, it feels like a miniature version of the FUJI ALTERR, which combines old MTB styling with modern specs. In terms of two-wheelers, it's akin to the Monkey or Gorilla bikes.
While inherently a very niche bike concept, the STAUT embraces its quirks with an approachable and charming demeanor.
Its features are as follows:
- Chromoly frame + fat tires + numerous braze-ons, designed with adventure bikes in mind
- Standard 20x1.95" tires, with wide tire clearance supporting up to 2.4"
- Fully adaptable for fenders, racks, bike packing, and center stands, offering complete freedom of use
- Highly customizable, allowing for 451 wheel conversions or drop handle setups
- Limited size
- Minor scratches on the exterior
- Front rack instantly converts carrying capacity to adventure specifications
- 20x2.35 extra-fat tires balance chunky feel and off-road capability
- Heron bars and silver parts emphasize the OLD MTB aesthetic

- A very good deal for a one-of-a-kind item if the size and specifications fit you
In rough terrain, larger diameter wheels are inherently more advantageous. Despite knowing this, the STAUT's slight "audacity" in attempting to do everything with small wheels is what defines it.
That's why it captures the hearts of bike geeks and the intuitive "looks fun..." feeling of beginners alike.
You want to ride it even if you're not an expert. But the more you understand it, the more you want to customize it.
The STAUT is a very FUJI-like bike that works as a first bike and as a base for endless fun.
Customization Details

The FUJI STAUT we're introducing here is an eirin original custom built on a 2025 model/larger size/scratched outlet bike, with the idea of "if that's the case, let's go all out and have fun."
To be honest,
these reasons make it a bike that "chooses its rider" in its complete state.
That's why we've applied a custom treatment that drastically enhances its practicality, aesthetic appeal, and playfulness, transforming it into a bike where you don't just "not mind" these points, but rather think, "this specific setup is actually great!"
Custom Point ① | Front Rack

The first modification we made was the front rack, which immediately elevates the STAUT's character into a "functional bike."
We installed the ADEPT TRUSS PORTER RACK. To ensure it properly fits 20-inch wheels, we combined it with ADEPT: RACK LEG for 20inch.
The TRUSS PORTER RACK is a classic front rack model that combines three great features: ✔ affordable price ✔ doesn't look cheap ✔ ample carrying capacity.
It's also noteworthy that it balances well when attached to small-wheeled, fat-tire bikes like the STAUT, and doesn't look like an "afterthought" add-on.
Especially considering its intended use, which leans towards an "adventure-oriented aesthetic" and "from city riding to short excursions," the TRUSS PORTER RACK is a perfect fit.
Expanding the STAUT's "playful potential" by starting with front cargo capacity. This custom feature forms the foundation that determines the direction of this particular build.
Custom Point ② | Handlebars & Grips & Cables

Next up is the handlebar area customization, which significantly impacts both the visual impression and ride feel.
We chose the NITTO b354 Heron Bar for the handlebars.
It's a cruiser bar with an upright rise, perfectly complementing the STAUT's horizontal frame.
It provides a more relaxed riding position than a riser bar while subtly creating the vibe of an old MTB or commuter bike.
The image here is to clearly define the STAUT's character as "adventurous, yet relaxed and easy to ride" through its handlebars.
*Since the handlebar clamp diameter changed from the genuine 31.8 to 24.5, the stem has also been replaced (GIZA GP MS-28 100mm 84° 25.4mm).

Grips make a difference because your hands are on them constantly during a ride. We installed ESI Ribbed Chunky here.
Ribbed Chunky, as the name suggests, is a silicone grip characterized by **8 grooves (ribs)**. These grooves provide excellent grip stability for the fingers, making it easier to control the handlebars even on rough roads or bumps.
The thickness is the same as ESI's standard "Chunky." It has plenty of volume and excellent cushioning.

And a subtle but effective touch is the cables. This time, we used a consistent clear specification for both the Nissen Cable SP31 shift cable and brake cable.
Not only does performance dramatically improve, but the addition of these clear cables also adds a lightness to the predominantly black frame.
The increased sense of unity with silver parts elevates the custom feel by another level, significantly boosting the bike's overall visual completeness.
This custom exemplifies a "hands-on" approach to a part that is rarely chosen in a complete bike.
By setting the "direction" with the handlebars and "finishing" with the cables, the STAUT instantly transforms from a mass-produced bike into one with the distinct appearance of a personal custom build.
Custom Point ③ | Tires

A significant change in the impression and ride of the wheels comes from the increased tire volume. We installed "SALT PLUS Sting Tires 20x2.30" this time.
SALT PLUS Sting tires are all-around models that combine BMX-derived toughness with ease of handling on the street. By significantly increasing the tire width from the stock 20x1.95" to 2.3", the STAUT's "chunky and plump" feel is further emphasized, and its adventurous look is elevated.
The key feature of these tires is their unique tread pattern. The center section is designed for low rolling resistance, while the outer section prioritizes grip, providing confidence in corners and on rough surfaces. This means they are not "scary" to ride on city streets, gravel paths, or uneven paved roads, perfectly matching the STAUT's character.
With their increased width, lowering the air pressure significantly improves cushioning and traction. This results in a wheel setup that, despite its small diameter, is "properly capable of handling rough terrain."
The STAUT's deep capacity, supporting up to 2.4" tires, makes such a bold tire choice fit seamlessly.
Custom Point ④ | Saddle

For the saddle, we selected the Selle Italia MILANO TURBO BONNIE. This is a limited edition model from Selle Italia that revives the classic 1980s saddle "Turbo 1980" with a vintage aesthetic.
The glossy black leather with intricate embroidery and titanium-colored metal plates at the front and rear evoke a motorcycle-like feel, adding a sophisticated and alluring touch to the OLD MTB × Adventure aesthetic that this STAUT custom aims for.
If you're building a vintage-style bike, this saddle is truly a centerpiece.
The luster of the black leather and the three-dimensional embroidery enhance the texture of the chromoly frame, adding a touch of coolness and allure to the STAUT's "cuteness."
While it appears to be chosen for aesthetics, it actually offers moderate cushioning, making it comfortable for city rides to longer excursions. Its "more than just looks" quality is truly a testament to Selle Italia.
Custom Point ⑤ | Pedals

For the pedals, we installed the MKS (Mikashima Seisakusho) SYLVAN GORDITO.
It's a flat pedal packed with Made in Japan appeal, featuring a universal design that naturally blends with any bike type, yet upon closer inspection, reveals a unique "character" unlike any other.
The model name Gordito means "chubby" in Spanish. It's a term used with familiarity and affection, like "darling."
As the name suggests, while based on the same 94mm width as the Sylvan Touring, its vertical dimension is extended to 85mm (+22mm). It features a robust, large platform, providing a reassuring feel underfoot.
The internal structure uses cup & cone bearings. Regularly maintaining them ensures long-lasting and comfortable use, which is a characteristic of MKS products.
Furthermore, replacement parts are available for the side plates and M4 button screws for attachment, with the side plates being black anodized, offering peace of mind that it's not "done for if it breaks."
In this silver-themed STAUT custom, the SYLVAN GORDITO subtly tightens up the foot area while adding a strong sense of "functional tool."
While not flashy, it's a pedal choice that exemplifies Japanese brands: you know its quality when you step on it, and you can trust it when you use it.
Custom Point ⑥ | Stand

For the kickstand, we adopted the ESGE (PLETSCHER) Double Leg Center Stand. This long-selling model has been supported since its appearance in 1995, thanks to its overwhelming stability, characteristic of its two legs, and Swiss-made precision and durability.
For the STAUT, which has the potential to carry even more luggage, this sense of security is essential.
Double-leg stands are often perceived as getting in the way while riding, but ESGE has considered this aspect carefully.
When riding, the legs retract into a single unit and neatly tuck under the left chainstay, avoiding interference with the chain and maintaining a clean look. The legs are adjustable in length, accommodating everything from small-wheeled bikes to large ones.
Furthermore, a new mounting part allows for fine-tuning to fit various chainstay shapes, significantly improving compatibility.
For a bike like the STAUT, which is "fun to stop, load, and admire," stability when parked is crucial. The ESGE double-leg stand reliably and elegantly fulfills this role.
While the price might be a bit higher, considering the long-term reliability and satisfaction, it's ultimately a cost-effective custom.
