熱可塑系ポリウレタン採用の超軽量チューブ「REVOLOOP TUBE」をご紹介!

Introducing REVOLOOP TUBE, an ultralight tube made from thermoplastic polyurethane!

REVOLOOP's ultra-lightweight inner tubes use recyclable and environmentally friendly "thermoplastic polyurethane" for the tube and valve materials, instead of the popular butyl rubber/metal. This has resulted in a significant weight reduction while maintaining puncture resistance.

Manufactured with unique bonding technology (the first to flatly and smoothly bond thick polyurethane material), it contributes to reducing tire rolling resistance and further preventing punctures caused by snakebites and thorn punctures.

The valve itself also uses a proprietary "high-hardness polyurethane resin," which reduces the risk of punctures due to damage around the valve.

The black color of the valve is also a refreshing design choice!

According to the manufacturer, these tubes are "puncture-resistant with a ride feel like latex tubes," making them practically perfect race tubes...

I measured them right out of the box!

  • For Road (700c×18-28c) Weight: 38g (catalog value -1g)

  • For Cyclocross (700c×32-40c) Weight: 29g (catalog value -1g)

  • For MTB (27.5"×1.6-2.4"/29"×1.6-2.4") Weight: 47g (catalog value +2g)

These were the results. There may be some individual variation, but the weight is well within acceptable levels ◎

While the pioneering TUBOLITO brand tubes cost ¥4,800 (excluding tax) per tube, which might have made some hesitant to use them, this product is priced at ¥2,800 (excluding tax).

In terms of weight, when compared to TUBOLITO, there is no difference for road bikes, but for cyclocross sizes, it is 24g lighter, and for MTB, it is an impressive 35g lighter.

I was curious, so I measured the thickness.

The road version was about 0.3mm thick, which is comparable. However, the cyclocross/MTB versions were even thinner, about half that, at just 0.16mm.

This is likely because most cyclocross/MTB models use disc brakes, reducing the high heat load on the rim, making this thickness acceptable.

For those who have read this far, it goes without saying that the trade-off for the reduced thickness and its superior lightness is the puncture resistance against sharp objects.

These are also recommended for those interested in weight reduction with tubeless setups but are concerned about the installation, maintenance, and effort involved!

Especially for wider sizes, they are lighter than the sealant required for tubeless setups, making them even more appealing.

Although inner tubes are hidden inside the tire and don't significantly affect the appearance, they actually have a major impact on riding performance (making the ride feel lighter).

Additionally, REVOLOOP offers dedicated puncture repair patches.

These excellent products allow you to deal with punctures on the go ◎

If you're interested, why not give them a try??
